GREENE COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) - A Greene County Detention Center inmate who walked away from a work site faces a new felony escape charge.
According to Sheriff Steve Franks, 19-year-old Joseph G. Bridges walked away from the work release center on Sunday, Feb. 14.
He was “quickly apprehended and is back in custody,” Franks said in a Wednesday news release.
Bridges was serving 120 days of work release for theft of property and theft of motor vehicle charges.
He is now charged with felony escape, and his work release sentence has been revoked.
An ongoing investigation into a series of break-ins and property thefts has led to an arrest.
Paragould police officers have arrested Johnny Gene Rodgers, 39, of Lake City, on charges of two counts of breaking or entering and one count of theft of property valued between $1,000 and $5,000. Both are Class D felonies; Rodgers also faces misdemeanor charges.
According to a probable cause affidavit sworn by Detective Sgt. Robert Sexton of the departmentâs Criminal Investigation Division, the arrest took place Jan. 23 after officers had responded to a report of a suspicious person at Arkansas Autorama Salvage and Sales. The business had been the scene of several break-ins and thefts of auto parts during December 2020 and January 2021, according to Sextonâs affidavit.

Mark A. Hanselman was moved Friday night to the Greene County Detention Center.
Hanseman, 55, who was wounded Dec. 3 in an officer-involved shooting in Greene County, walked away between Thursday night and Friday morning from the Johnson City Medical Center, where he was scheduled to have surgery Friday.
Hanselman was taken into custody Friday without incident by Johnson City police after a daylong, multi-agency search. He was being taken to the Greene County jail, Sheriff Wesley Holt said Friday night.
Hanselman was found to be missing from the hospital about 6:30 a.m. Friday. He was not under guard because he had not been formally served with any warrants relating to the circumstances that led to the shooting, Holt said.
