View Comments A Black father attending a South Carolina high school football game with his family and young daughters overheard the moments Mauldin police officer Tony Koutsos repeatedly used a racial slur at a 2019 game, according to a personnel file made public Monday. The father never said a word. He only looked back at Koutsos and then down at his little girls. Those details are included in Koutsos personnel file, provided to The Greenville News late Monday in response to a Freedom of Information request. The file provides more information about what happened than has previously been made public by city officials or the Mauldin Police Department.

GHS to host Band of Pride 5K Aug. 7 Staff report GREENVILLE The Greenville High School marching band will host the Band of Pride 5K on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 8 a.m. at Greenville High School, located at 100 Greenwave Way. The race is 5 kilometers, or 3.1 miles, in length, and is open to runners or walkers, as well as strollers and dogs. The race divisions are divided up by male and female, then by age groups, such as 10 and under, 11 to 14, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 and up. Custom medals will be given to the top three males and females overall as well as those in each age division. If runners forget to bring water, they can use the water station provided along the course. Race times will be posted on the GT Races website at www.gtraces.com

GHS Career Tech to offer new workforce connections By Andrea Townsend - Career and Special Education Director GREENVILLE There continues to be an ongoing debate about what is the best for students regarding college and or career readiness. I am not sure that the answer is a simple dichotomy. In fact, I suspect the plan for students after high school should be as unique as the students themselves. There are so many opportunities for students today. Traditional routes such as 4-year college, 2-year college, technical schools and military still serve a large part of the high school graduates. Today, however, students can consider other options including a 2-year to a 4-year degree bridge offered by most community and public colleges. Adult education training programs are available to graduates as well for certification in skills such as welding or business.
