Mayor Knox White has asked for state law enforcement to help Greenville police enforce COVID-19 rules on mask wearing, alcohol consumption and capacity limits on New Year s Eve a move that comes as hospital beds across the Upstate fill and frontline workers are strained.
During a press conference Tuesday afternoon, after plans for several parties circulated on social media, White and officials from the Greenville Police Department and the area s largest hospital systems called on people not to attend New Year s Eve parties with people from outside their households.

Walter Greene has been charged with kidnapping, violation of order of protection, domestic violence and abandonment of a minor child after taking his two children from Simpsonville, Wednesday, according to Lt. Ryan Flood of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.
Flood said Greene was captured at a convenience store on Highway 101 in Spartanburg County. The children were reported safe.
Deputies received tips about the vehicle Greene was driving on Woodruff Road approaching Hwy. 101 before 1 p.m. Deputies followed the car until it pulled into a parking lot at the convenience at 5400 Hwy. 101.
Flood reported Greene stepped away from the car, with the children inside, took Greene into custody and safely secured the children.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Greenville County Sheriffâs Office is trying to find a woman whose vehicle was found abandoned in the southwestern part of the state.
Flavie Alix Marie Cocard, 21, was last seen on Dec. 15 before telling her family she was leaving, but she apparently did not give them a reason, deputies say.
Two days later, last Thursday, her vehicle was found abandoned by the Abbeville County Sheriffâs Office.
The two children are safe and the suspect is in custody.
Deputies received a call at 8:19 a.m. after a 3-month-old and a 1-year-old were taken from their mother from a home on Roberts Road in Simpsonville, said Lt. Ryan Flood, of the Greenville County Sheriff s Office. The children are believed to be in their mother s 2016 black Jeep Cherokee with the SC license tag SGF636.

Before 1 p.m., deputies observed the car and followed it into a convenience store parking lot at 5400 Highway 101. Greene stepped away from the vehicle with the kids still inside and deputies moved in, took him into custody and returned the children to safety, according to Lt. Ryan Flood.

Dec. 23 Two young kids are missing after an assault against their mother, prompting a search in South Carolina, officials say.
An Amber Alert was issued for the children, 1-year-old Paradyce Greene and 3-month-old Majesty Greene, the Greenville County Sheriff s Office said Wednesday morning in a Facebook post.
Deputies say the children s father took the kids after assaulting their mom in Simpsonville, roughly 15 miles southeast of downtown Greenville.
The dad, 26-year-old Walter Greene, was last seen driving a 2016 model Jeep Cherokee with damage on the front driver s side, officials say. The SUV is black and has the plate number SGF636.
