Woman charged with arson for fire at Meadow Run Apartments in Anderson

View Comments A woman has been charged in relation to the fire that happened at Meadow Run Apartments in Anderson on April 20, according to Anderson County Fire Chief Jimmy Sutherland. When the Anderson County Fire Department responded to the fire around 6:30 p.m. that evening, they saw fire coming from Jordan Kerry Dockery s apartment. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes but at least seven other apartments had smoke and water damage. Dockery was the only person injured and was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. She was charged Thursday morning with second-degree arson. As soon as the investigation into the fire began, Sutherland said the cause of the fire was suspicious. While talking to the Independent Mail today, he said the time of day and where the fire started was what deemed the fire suspicious to the department.

One-dose returns as S C leaders consider beach, festival vaccinations

The Janssen vaccine, also known as Johnson & Johnson, is back in use in South Carolina after a 10-day federally-requested pause. It came back into use Friday. There are about 33,000 doses of the vaccine being stored, and once again used, in South Carolina. It is the least-used vaccine, about 5% of the state s vaccine doses have been Janssen. It is also the last one to get authorization and is the most flexible vaccine since it has easier storage requirements and only requires one dose for full effectiveness.

Money is already flowing. A $30 million state fund for rural broadband expansion projects opened up to applications Thursday. The state spent about $50 million in CARES Act money on related projects last year. Gov. Henry McMaster has proposed another $30 million for broadband improvements. The state is using $6 million in federal COVID funds to set up eight Internet labs in areas with limited or no access.
