Track and Field: Women Claim PAC Outdoor Championship

MORGANTOWN W.Va. – The Westminster College women s track and field team won their first Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Championship since 2012 at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia on Friday, while the men finished third.
The women started the day with a victory in the 4x100-meter relay, as seniors Maura Belding(Columbiana, OH / Crestview) and Selena Thomas (Farrell, PA / Farrell Area), junior Haley Moore(Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) and first-year Jessica Fatigati (McDonald, PA / West Allegheny) formed the winning quartet with a time of 50.90. Thomas went on to earn Overall Most Outstanding Performer honors after scoring a total of 26.50 points for the Titans, winning the long jump title with a jump of 5.21 meters, taking second in the 200-meter dash and crossing the line in third in the 100 meters. A Hempfield woman who volunteers in a leadership role with the Westmoreland County Young Marines won a national award for her efforts, a year after her daughter won a Young Marines award for her exemplary service.
Sheila Myers, who has logged more than 1,000 community service hours in the past eight years, was named the Volunteer of the Year for the Young Marines for Northeast states from Maine to Pennsylvania. She commands 15 Young Marines in Westmoreland and oversees Young Marines units in Allegheny, Washington and Cambria counties as commander of a regiment that extends across Pennsylvania and New Jersey and covers the West Virginia panhandle.

How many music lovers dream of getting onstage with a favorite band? How many actually get a chance to do it?
Apollo native Dan Swank is one of the lucky ones. In 2020, he became a member of his all-time favorite band, All Time Low.
Working with the band as an assistant tour manager, then an auxiliary member, then a full-time member, has been a surreal experience, he said.

Thomas Jefferson’s Nick Johnson edged Freeport’s Mark Livingston by four pins to capture the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League boys singles championship Wednesday at AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes.
Johnson, the No. 2 seed for the bracketed playoffs, rolled a 195 in the finals to Livingston’s 191.
The Jaguars junior made a big leap in the standings after he placed 57th at last year’s WPIBL singles event at Sims Lanes in Beaver Falls.
In the semifinals, Johnson topped the No. 3 seed, East Allegheny’s Ian Baker, 202-182, and Livingston, the No. 5 seed, upended No. 1 seed Dominick Vallano from Hempfield, 181-167.
