A Korean palm oil giant has been rejected from the world s leading green certification body in the wake of a BBC investigation.
The BBC had earlier found evidence that the Korindo group had been buying up swathes of Asia s largest remaining rainforests in the remote Indonesian province of Papua.
A visual analysis suggested that fires had then been deliberately set to these forests, a clear violation of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
The regulator s tree logo - found on paper products throughout the UK and Europe - is meant to tell consumers the product is sourced from ethical and sustainable companies.

Emmy Hafild, yang membela lingkungan hidup dan kaum marjinal itu telah berpulang, Sabtu (3/7/21). Sekitar pukul 10.30, Emmy dikebumikan di Tempat Pemakaman Umum (TPU) Tanah Kusir pada 4 Juli lalu.
Hampir 34 tahun, dia terjun di dunia lingkungan hidup, mulai dari saat mahasiswa hingga akhir hayat. Emmy pernah tergabung dalam berbagai organisasi lingkungan hidup, antara lain di Yayasan Indonesia Hijau, Walhi hingga Greenpeace Asia Tenggara.
Sandra Moniaga, Komisioner Pengkajian dan Penelitian Komnas HAM mengatakan, Emmy menjadi seorang teman yang selalu berbagi ilmu dan berani menyampaikan pendapatnya tanpa ragu. Emmy berkontribusi pada
penguatan gerakan lingkungan hidup dan prodemokrasi di Indonesia.
