Party flag unveiled by Raijor Dol, first convention from January 7 to 9 Newly formed Raijor Dol unveiled its party flag on Monday. The party has formed 29 district committees and 75 constituency committees in the state   |  20 Dec 2020 10:12 AM GMT Guwahati: The newly formed political party of the state, Raijor Dol (people s party) unveiled its party flag on Sunday. The party also announced the dates of the first convention, which is to be held in January 2021. The flag was launched in the presence of Jahnu Baruah, Filmmaker; Ghyanshyam Nath, Former Principal of Guwahati Commerce College; Rubul Das and Giri Shankar Goswami, Convenors; and Vasco De Saikia, former president of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

New party to stick to Assam Accord on citizenship

The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), the newly floated regional party backed by the All Assam Students Union and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, on Thursday not only appointed its first president but also spelt out its political roadmap, including an assurance to protect the rights of those accepted as Indian citizens in accordance with the 1985 Assam Accord. Former AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi was appointed the first president of the AJP at its well-attended first political convention held at Sivasagar Boarding Field in Upper Assam. In his presidential address, the 40-year-old Lurinjyoti, a masters in mathematics and education from Dibrugarh University, made it clear that those who have come to Assam between 1951 and 1971 have nothing to fear since they have been accepted as Indians under the Assam Accord. GUWAHATI: Hundreds of people staged protests against the Centre’s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the capital city on Saturday exactly a year after five persons were killed during the protests. Protesters vowed to intensify the agitation if the Centre went ahead to implement the CAA, which has been challenged by over 140 petitions in the apex court. Deafening roars of “ami CAA namanu (we will not accept CAA)” reverberated across the city and the state as the day saw people organizing bike rallies in protest against CAA and people from Sadiya to Dhubri paid tributes to five people who died on December 12 last year during protests against the Act.
