Renowned radiologist, founding NIMS director Kakarla Subbarao dies at 96
Subbarao is remembered in creating NIMS from its predecessor Nizam Orthopedics, by implementing a new structure and converting it to into a premier medical institution in the country.

Hyderabad: Renowned bone radiologist and founding director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Kakarla Subbarao passed away in the early hours of Friday at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Secunderabad due to age-related complicated. He was 96.
He is remembered in creating NIMS from its predecessor Nizam Orthopedics, by implementing a new structure and converting it to into a premier medical institution in the country, at the behest of former chief minister NT Rama Rao.

Renowned radiologist and former Director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao passed away while undergoing treatment at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Secunderabad in the wee hours of Friday. He was 96.
Dr. Rao was admitted to KIMS a month ago with age-related health complications. The doctors at the hospital said he breathed his last in the early hours of Friday.

COVID-19: Panic in Hyderabad as private hospitals short of beds
Hyderabad: With COVID-19 cases spiralling over the last 10 days, there is an acute shortage of beds in private hospitals across the city, with not even one major healthcare centre having space to accommodate new patients. Moreover, due to a lack of government supervision on prices, hospitals are also fleecing desperate patients, whose families are being forced to shell out Rs 50,000 per day for a normal bed, and Rs 60,000 to Rs 1 lakh per day for a ventilator bed.
The situation is so grim in the city, perhaps even worse than last year after the pandemic broke out, that not even a single major hospital chain has beds available.
