OAKLAND, Calif. - Gregory Jacobs, better known under the rap moniker Shock G and frontman of the group Digital Underground, has died, according to his bandmate. He was 57.
Chopmaster J broke the news of Shock G s passing on Instagram Thursday evening. He wrote, 34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!

Digital Underground’s Shock G died on Thursday at the age of 57, the rapper’s father confirmed to TMZ. No cause of death was given, but Shock G’s dad told TMZ he was found in a hotel room in Tampa.
Chopmaster J, a founding member of Digital Underground, also confirmed the news on Instagram, writing, “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”

Shock G, whose real name is Gregory Jacobs, was found dead in his hotel room in Tampa, Florida. As of right now,
Shock G‘s cause of death is unclear, but there were no signs of trauma.
His father says that authorities will being conducting an autopsy in the near future.
Shock G rose to fame in the ’90s as the lead vocalist for
Digital Underground and their hit song “The Humpty Dance.” The song also led to him creating his alter ego Humpty Hump.

Shock, whose real name is Gregory Jacobs, helped create the Bay-Area-based Hip Hop band Digital Underground in 1987, which spawned the career of one of Hip Hop’s most prolific icons to date; Tupac Shakur. Also, Jacobs’ self-created alter ego Humpty Hump made up the classic “Humpty Dance” that helped popularize the group in 1989.
Jacobs’ death was announced via social media by friend and bandmate Chopmaster J, who wrote, “34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some. And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!!”

US rapper Shock G from Digital Underground has died aged 57.
The death of Shock G, real name Gregory Jacobs, is the latest to hit the hip-hop community after the two recent deaths of legendary MC DMX and the Woah! hitmaker Black Rob.
The news was shared by his former bandmate Chopmaster J.
