For the second time in less than two weeks, renowned international hotel chain Sandals Resorts has found itself at the centre of controversy regarding flagrant breaches of COVID-19 protocols that this time has led to harsh sanctions from the Government.
But in a strongly worded, exclusive statement to
Barbados TODAY, Sandals Resorts International vehemently refuted the allegations of repeated breaches and is accusing public health officials of heavy-handed action in the middle of dialogue between the hotel and the Ministry of Health.
The five-star property is also contesting an “implication” from authorities that three tourists currently in police custody regarding protocol breaches are in any way associated with its guests.

The World has been held to ransom by an invisible bug, and the impact has been both deep on a personal level and wide on a global society level. Families have been separated, friends and social life put on hold, people have lost loved ones and businesses have been decimated.
I have learned that I took life for granted to a certain extent – hopping on a plane to go on a dive trip was a very regular activity. Then came COVID-19, and with it, a dawning sense of reality that travel (and indeed diving to a lesser extent) was no longer a right.

Until last week, Grenada was a rare bright spot in the COVID-19 pandemic an idyllic Caribbean island nation that had seen just 45 coronavirus cases and no deaths.
This week, officials in Grenada are tracing the contacts of 26 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 that stem from a single all-inclusive resort, the Sandals Grenada. The cluster was discovered during routine employee testing on Friday and Saturday, Grenada’s Ministry of Health said in a statement.
The government had previously reported no more than six new coronavirus cases in a single day, according to data from the World Health Organization. Now, Grenada’s tally of total coronavirus cases has risen to 71.

Grenada s Ministry of Health says it s taking aggressive efforts to contain an outbreak of Covid-19 cases connected to the Sandals Grenada all-inclusive resort.
Keith Mitchell, prime minister of Grenada, in an address on Dec. 14 outlined several temporary measures to contain the spread of Covid-19 on the island.
Effective Dec. 15, all social gatherings, including weddings and funerals, are limited to 10 participants for the next seven days. Community evens and gatherings are postponed for seven days; business operations, including public transportation, must stop at 10 p.m.; and restaurants are limited to takeout service only. The sudden spike in Covid cases originated at Sandals Grenada and demonstrates the grave dangers we face, Mitchell said.
