PwC in the Caribbean donates US$70,000 to St Vincent relief

PwC in the Caribbean and the PwC Charitable Foundation have collectively donated over US$100,000 to disaster relief and recovery efforts in St Vincent and the Grenadines. On 9 April 2021, the La Soufriere volcano erupted, sending ash and gas plumes miles into the sky and affecting neighbouring islands. The disaster has displaced about 20,000 people and left the population of 110,000 people without clean drinking water or electricity.  PwC firms operating in the Caribbean contributed a total of $70,000. The funds were raised by the partners and staff of PwC firms in The Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, East Caribbean (Barbados and St. Lucia), Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.

Soufriere volunteers celebrated on World Redcross Day

Social Share Yesterday, Monday May 8, 2021 was observed as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the day was dedicated to the volunteers and staff of the Red Cross who are reaching people affected by the eruption of La Soufrière, dengue, and COVID-19, and display a commitment to local community action that is unstoppable, a release stated. “It has been a difficult time for our communities since the eruption of La Soufrière one month ago. The Red Cross teams have been out learning about needs and providing emergency relief to those impacted. Many of our volunteers and staff have been impacted by the evacuations themselves,” said Bernard Morgan, President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Red Cross Society (SVGRC).

PwC donates $100,000 to SVG relief PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the Caribbean and the PwC Charitable Foundation have collectively donated $100,000 to disaster relief and recovery efforts in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, following the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano there. PwC firms operating in the Caribbean contributed a total of $60,000. The funds were raised by the partners and staff of PwC firms in The Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, East Caribbean (Barbados and St. Lucia), Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, The PwC Charitable Foundation approved a grant of $30,000 to the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Red Cross, through the American Red Cross. And a donation of $10,000 was made by L&F Indemnity Limited (L&F), the Bermuda-based captive insurance company for the PricewaterhouseCoopers network of firms.

The eruption the volcano’s first explosive event since 1979 has displaced about 20,000 people and left the entire population of 110,000 people without clean drinking water or electricity.   The partners and staff of PwC firms operating in the Caribbean contributed a total of over US$71,000. The funds, which were raised by firms in The Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, East Caribbean (Barbados and St. Lucia), Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago are being donated to the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency.

Red Cross has supported more than 2,000 people with water and emergency relief supplies since the initial eruption on 9 April. “We are responding to an emergency within another emergency as the eruption affects a country already impacted by an ongoing dengue outbreak and the social and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent heavy rainfall resulting in landslides and flooding and leading to damage and destruction of property makes the situation even more difficult.
