US donates US$3.8 m to help St Vincent recover after volcano eruption

St Vincent and the Grenadines is expected to receive an additional US$3.8 million in humanitarian assistance through the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
Linda Taglialatela, the US Ambassador to Barbados, made the announcement on Friday saying that the funds were to provide supplies and support to the thousands affected by the eruption of La Soufriere volcano.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) can expect concrete help from the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).

A team from ALBA-TCP, including the secretary general Sacha Llorentti was on the ground in the red zone this week and met with SEARCHLIGHT before one of their tours.
“We are here to express our solidarity with the Prime Minister and people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and also make an assessment of the situation to try and establish the best ways in which ALBA could help the efforts of the government,” Llorentti commented on Monday.
World Bank gives preliminary $$ estimates for St Vincent recovery

PRIME Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves said the World Bank has given preliminary estimates of how much money would be needed for recovery efforts, once the activity of the La Soufriere volcano ceases. He stressed that none of the figures provided are final or official.
It has now been two weeks since the volcano s first eruption, which has been continuing. The most recent explosive eruption occurred at 11 am on Thursday, which was Earth Day.
