United Nations, May 8 : India s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has boycotted a high-level Security Council meeting at the ministerial level that was convened by China, which is the body s President for this month.
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla represented India at Friday s high-level meeting on multilateralism that was presided over by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Coming amid tensions between India and China, Jaishankar s absence stood out as the other 14 members of the Security Council sent minister-level officials to the meeting held virtually.

CARICOM foreign ministers and United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan held virtual talks on several issues of mutual interest on Friday.
Arising from that meeting, Sullivan proposed regular high-level meetings between Caricom and the US, including a summit between Caricom Heads of Government and US President Joe Biden.
In a statement, Caricom said, Emphasis was placed on the importance of addressing the covid19 pandemic and its economic effects through access to vaccines and to economic recovery financing.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The United Nations launched an appeal on Tuesday for $29.2 million to help some 15,000 people displaced when the La Soufriere volcano on the eastern Caribbean island of St. Vincent erupted earlier this month.
“We are in a dire situation frankly … We’re not out of the woods,” St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves told reporters, adding that scientists had warned eruptions could last another six months.
