Grayson County announced 20 COVID-19 related deaths week of Dec 11

Herald Democrat Grayson County announced four more COVID-19 related deaths of county residents on Friday. That made the number announced last week 20 and the number of people who have died such deaths since the pandemic began to 137. Earlier last week, Grayson County Health Department Director Amanda Ortez said just because the deaths were all announced this week doesn t mean they all occurred this week. There is a lag in the death certificate reporting with the state. In addition to the new deaths Friday, Grayson County reported 55 new cases of COVID-19 which brought the county s total active cases to 386. In addition, the report said the county s hospital total ICU occupancy was at 100 percent on Friday evening.

County s active COVID-19 cases numbers drop

Herald Democrat Grayson County s active COVID-19 case numbers fell over the weekend from a high of 432 on Saturday to a low of 238 on Monday. After a straight week of increased deaths from the illness, the county s death total held at 137 over the weekend. Saturday, the county reported 46 new cases of the illness in County residents and 33 new cases on Sunday. On Monday, the county reported 122 new cases, but the active case load fell from 432 cases on Saturday to just 236 on Monday. A report from the Grayson County Health Department and Office of Emergency Management Monday said that the county s hospitals total ICU occupancy on Monday was at 100 percent and its total hospital occupancy was at 92 percent. That included 16.54 percent of COVID-19. The regional COVID-19 hospital capacity was 17.09 percent.

Pottsboro mayor says it s courting disaster A college bubble community may soon be coming to Texoma for the spring semester even though city officials do not think now is time or Pottsboro is the place for the program. The U Experience is a college campus slated to open at Tanglewood Resort to allow students who are are learning remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic to still have the college experience. Through the resort, representatives for the company said students will be able to have some of the college experience despite distance learning. This last spring, millions of college students were impacted. They were pulled from their support network and truly were missing out on the college experience, The U Experience President Adam Bragg said.
