Grayson County said goodbye to some long-term employees in 2020 [Herald Democrat] Many of the people in key leadership positions, both elected and not, at Grayson County have held those positions for years if not decades and are beginning to retire. In 2020, the county lost leaders in the Information Technology Department, Purchasing Department and at the District Attorney’s Office. Maybe the most noticeable retirement saw the passing of the torch at the head of the county’s Information Technology Department when Ken Miller retired in September. After 23 years with the county, Miller left the county’s information technology in the hands of his handpicked crew.

Sherman man gets 40 years for ag assault with a deadly weapon Staff reports A Sherman man will spend at least the next 20 years behind bars after being sentenced to 40 years in prison Thursday. In a news release issued by the Grayson County District Attorney s Office, it was announced that Donald Owens, 54, of Sherman, has been sentenced to 40 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-family violence from an incident that took place in 2018. Owens was convicted following a bench trial that took place in September. On the morning of November 4, 2018, Sherman Police responded to a call regarding an assault that took place in the 1700 block of Ann Street, the release said. The responding officers determined the victim had sustained multiple lacerations. The victim was immediately transported by EMS to Texoma Medical Center. The attending physician who treated the victim testified at trial that the injuries were serious, left permanent scarring, and could have led to her

Terry Dun retires after serving the public for more than 40 years

Herald Democrat The Grayson County District Attorney s Office honored a public servant of more than 40 years this week at the GC commissioner s court meeting. Terry Dunn, a criminal investigator the past almost 18 years will retire at the end of the month.  There are probably dozens of women who are alive today because of Terry Dunn, GC DA Brett Smith told commissioners. There are hundreds of women who have been able to escape destructive violent relationships because of Terry Dunn. There are thousands of women in this county who are safer today because of Terry Dunn. This is has worked as a domestic violence investigator for the past 17 years and that doesn t even include the decades of law enforcement work he did at Sherman PD, he added.

Lindsley Cravens arraigned on a murder of Stephen Obar

By Jerrie Whiteley Herald Democrat A local man facing a murder charge in Grayson County was arraigned on Friday. Lindsley Cravens was arraigned on a murder charges related to the death of Stephen Obar from November. The arraignment is generally a person s first court appearance after being arrested. During that hearing, a judge reads the formal charges against the person and ask if the person has an attorney or plans to hire one or if the person needs to ask for a court appointed attorney. The judge can also ask for a plea at this time. Cravens defense attorney Tim Brown asked the judge to reduce Cravens  bond. That request was approved.
