The Housing and Urban Development Department says the Dallas agency ignored a North Dallas tenant’s request to move to a ground-floor unit and later evicted her in retaliation for the request

Dallas’ housing authority violated a tenant’s civil rights in 2019 by preventing her from moving to a ground-floor unit even though she used a wheelchair and later illegally tried to evict her, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The work of emerging student artists, including Meghan Joyce and Victoria Grabosky of Wexford, at Slippery Rock University is on display through April 30 via a virtual exhibition, “MOSAIC: Individually Together.”
Participating student artists are enrolled in the University’s professional practices course, Art Seminar, and under the instruction of Heather Hertel, professor of art.
“Each spring, students would normally have the opportunity to put together an exhibition and host a reception, and it’s at those receptions where there is a lot of conversation (about the works) and attendees get to physically experience the artwork,” said Hertel. “This year, though, because of the pandemic, we had to get creative with transitioning these very social and physical events to an online platform.”

On June 2, about 28 million people posted black squares to their Instagram feeds as part of Blackout Tuesday, an initiative started by two Black women in the music industry Jamila Thomas, senior director of marketing at Atlantic Records, and Brianna Agyemang, a former executive at Atlantic in an effort to encourage reflection about the prevalence of anti-Black racism and police brutality.
While some people’s engagements with the cause ended on Instagram drawing criticism from some activists and academics, who derided the posts as prime examples of “slacktivism,” or half-hearted social media-based activism others opened their wallets to donate to Black-led and Black-focused nonprofit organizations, collectives and mutual aid groups.
