Insight into Cambodia project
January 28, 2021
A Woy Woy club enjoyed a presentation recently on a sustainability project to help support families in rural Cambodia.
The Rotary Club of Woy Woy was visited by guest speaker Christine Owen at the January 12 meeting.
Owen visited the project in Cambodia in February 2020 and spent 10 days helping families learn about safe water and sanitation, sustainable incomes, healthy food and education.
The project helps villages build schools, install wells, learn about alternative agriculture and begin to manage community projects.
Woy Woy Rotary President Joan Redmond thanked Owen for sharing her experience.
“Christine showed us a fascinating insight into Cambodia, as they did some touring prior to starting work on the project,” Redmond said.
PENDLETON â Kristin Owen has a long career of helping others, and itâs that history that has her ready for the challenges awaiting her as the new executive director of Umatilla County services for Lifeways, a nonprofit tasked with managing the countyâs mental health needs.
Previously the clinical director for outpatient services, Owen left her home state of Illinois 30 months ago for a lifestyle change, as well as pursuing an opportunity to continue her work in rural mental health work.
A native of Chicago, Owen said she started her work in child welfare working in a residential facility with wards of the state. She then went to work for a consulting agency that provided wraparound services for wards of the state.
THE Year in Review for the Pioneer concludes with our coverage in November.
Thursday, November 5, ‘Tributes paid to Connor’: Connor Reed, the first Briton known to have contracted Covid-19, died at the age of 26. Tributes flooded in after the Llandudno man died after returning from China to go to Bangor University. Mum Hayley said: “It brings me great sadness to announce our beautiful son Connor Reed has passed away in a tragic accident at Bangor University at the weekend. He will be so greatly missed by his brothers, family and friends.” Mr Reed previously said that contracting coronavirus was “not as serious as how it has been reported” and thanked the Chinese government for being open and providing information. He said: “The best case of recovery is having enough rest and keeping quarantined and being by yourself.”
