New Jersey s mask mandate requiring residents to wear face coverings indoors won’t be relaxed yet, Gov. Phil Murphy said Friday, one day after federal health officials said vaccinated residents could stop wearing masks.
Murphy said it could be weeks before the Garden State follows the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention s latest guidance, which allows anyone who is fully vaccinated to do indoor and outdoor activities of any size without a mask or social distancing. I would guess in a matter of weeks we’ll get to the point where we can comfortably say inside, no matter what, you’re OK, Murphy said after touring a vaccination site outside a ShopRite in East Orange on Friday.

Corrado Bill Establishing ‘Registered Apprenticeship Program’ Clears Committee
Legislation sponsored by Senator Kristin Corrado that would establish the Registered Apprenticeship Program for State Agencies in the Department of Labor and Workforce Development was advanced by the Senate Labor Committee.
“Professional apprenticeships open new doorways for individuals who choose a skills-based career path, including on-the-job training, mentors, and nationally-recognized industry credentials,” said Corrado (R-40). “And just like private employers, State agencies can, and should, take advantage of the benefits of registered apprentices to better recruit and retain State workers. New Jersey state Sens. Kristin Corrado, R-Bergen, Essex, Morris and Passaic, and Loretta Weinberg, D-Bergen, called on the Department of Labor and the Murphy administration to open unemployment offices in-person to help applicants whose unemployment benefits are being blocked.
Unemployment applicants have reported their claims flagged as fraudulent and are required to provide a proof of identity before funds can be released. With in-person locations closed, applicants are directed to an online system that does not work, the senators said.
“They should be able to show their social security cards and photo IDs at unemployment office to prove their identity and have their payments released,” Corrado said.
