A 54 year old disabled woman, who was caught smuggling cocaine out of the island, was on Friday fined one million dollars when she appeared in the St Andrew Parish Court.
Elaine Suglam, a resident of Cockburn Gardens in St Andrew, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges.
Prosecutors reported that, on December 19, 2019, Suglam was preparing to board a US bound flight at Norman Manley International Airport when narcotics police found six pounds of cocaine in her luggage.
During the bail hearing, her attorney, Christopher Townsend, urged the judge not to send her to prison due to her disability.
