Two people have died on the roads this afternoon in two separate crashes that happened around the same time. Source: 1 NEWS
One person died in Hornby in Christchurch after a crash between a truck and a cyclist.
The crash on the intersection of Shands Road and Halswell Junction Road was reported to police at about 5.30pm.
The intersection remains closed while emergency services work to clear the scene.
People are asked to avoid the area.
Another person has died after two vehicles crashed this afternoon on State Highway 14 in Northland, southwest of Whangārei.
Police said they were told about the serious crash near Tangiteroria in the Kaipara District shortly before 5.30pm.

The blaze at Te Kiteroia Lodge off Point Bush has now been extinguished after fire crew an afternoon spent fighting the flames.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand say a call was first received at 1.45pm to attend the “well established” fire, which came from the upstairs area of the two-storey building.
At one point there were over 30 firefighters in attendance, 11 appliances, including six fire trucks, two more providing relief as well as three tankers.

The Department of Internal Affairs presented the Government’s preferred option for water reform to 23 mayors and Ngāi Tahu, Collins said in a statement.
This new mainland water agency would assume ownership of all water assets and some council debt.
Collins said National was of the understanding that four mega-agencies will be set up across Aotearoa as part of the Three Waters proposal to manage water assets. The agencies would be similar to Auckland’s Watercare.
