Following huge success across the three days of the first-ever Grow Ōtautahi, event organisers have this week announced 2022 dates for the popular Christchurch Garden Festival.
Grow will return to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, with entry still free to everyone, over three days from 18 to 20 March 2022.
Festival Director Sandi MacRae says excitement is already building around the 2022 festival, with sponsors and visitors to the 2021 event sharing their favourite parts of the show and coming up with new ideas for next year.
Thunderstorms on Saturday late afternoon and evening brought about a significant amount of rain in Christchurch and surroundings areas. Makgabutlane said just over 25mm of rain was recorded in one hour in Le Bons Bay in Banks Peninsula. Most areas in the region recorded about 15mm rainfall, including the Christchurch Botanic Gardens (13.4mm), Sparks Rd (13.8mm), Duvauchelles near Akaroa (18.4mm) and Coopers Knob on the Port Hills (15mm). A total of 58 lightning strikes were recorded over Christchurch between 2pm and 10pm, Makgabutlane said. Over the greater Canterbury Plains region, 358 lightning strikes were recorded during the same period.
