When God Shakes Things

A very troubled Elijah went into a cave, and the word of the Lord came to him saying, “What are you doing here Elijah?” Elijah then began to explain to the Lord how difficult his life was. This is how the Lord responded, He sent a great and strong wind which tore into the mountain, breaking the rocks into pieces. Then He sent an earthquake. Then He sent a fire. Nowhere in the text do we see or hear that any of it frightened Elijah. Elijah never expresses any surprise or excitement about what God just did. He does not become unsettled. He is not moved. He does not run away or respond to these displays of God’s power with any outward expressions.

Review: The Ministry Years 1977-1979 Vol 1 - Keith Green

Reviewed by Graham Jovanovic One of CCM s first musical giants, these lovingly compiled compilations are now back in the UK racks. Volume 1 proves to be as fresh probably as the day these songs were first inspired. Inspiration is an appropriate term because Keith s obvious enthusiasm and deep faith proves to be infectiously uplifting. Endless combinations of evocative melodies and profound lyrics combine to show a songwriter of obvious gifting and anointed delivery. These compilations include songs that have become classics such as The Prodigal Son Suite , Run To The End Of The Highway and You Put This Love In My Heart . There Is A Redeemer is also featured, the chorus penned by his wife Melody, sung in many churches throughout the world. Some may quibble that the decidely West Coast soft rock sounds dated but this is all in memory of a man who with humility seemed to understand the key to worship. Consequently Keith leaves us to share in his obvious delight.

Do You Understand Who You re Talking To? - Love Worth Finding - January 22

A Heart of Compassion

Jesus was having what we, in the natural, would call a ‘bad day’. He had just received the news that the person who most understood him, his cousin, the prophet John the Baptist, had been wantonly murdered to fulfill a shallow promise by a lustful king. Jesus, though he was God, was also human, with human emotions. When he received this tragic news he just wanted to get away from it all. Matthew tells us: Now when Jesus heard about John, He withdrew from there in a boat to a secluded place by Himself … Matthew 14:13a (NASB) We’ve all been in that place where the cares of this world come over us like a tidal wave and all we want to do is to get away and be alone with God.
