The Christian County Public School System and Murray State University have partnered in a program centered on the premise of developing future educators.
According to a news release from CCPS Spokesperson John Rittenhouse, the program from both Hopkinsville and Christian County high schools is in Murray State’s 18-county west Kentucky service region. Participating students will take courses through a new dual credit program and earn college credit toward a degree offered through Murray State’s College of Education and Human Services.
Called the “Grow Your Own” program, holds significant opportunities for students to explore the teaching profession as a career before graduating high school with the potential of also helping address teacher shortages and increasing diversity in educators.

Christian County School System Superintendent Chris Bentzel is remembering the contributions of former superintendent Dr. Bob Lovingood, who recently died from COVID-19.
In a statement issued Thursday morning Bentzel says, “We are saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Bob Lovingood. Dr. Lovingood devoted his life’s work to education and we are honored he spent seven years from 2001-2008 leading Christian County Public Schools.”
He concludes by saying, “In his continued desire to serve, he was currently mayor of his hometown Vonore, TN. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dr. Lovingood’s family and friends.”

Christian County Public Schools was recently honored with the ‘Best Communities for Music Education’ designation from the NAMM Foundation.
District spokesman John Rittenhouse said the distinction is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement to provide music access and education to all students.
To qualify, CCPS answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were then verified with school officials and reviewed by the Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
