Barbara Morris spends at least three days a week for nearly three months every year helping others at the Christian County Senior Center.
A retired federal employee, Morris is one of five volunteers preparing free basic tax returns to qualified individuals through the IRSâs Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs.
âYou really enjoy seeing the people that you see once a year sometimes,â Morris said. âA lot of the elderly, they are just thankful that they can get (their taxes) done.â
Pennyrile Allied Community Services offers the VITA program, which gives free tax help to âpeople who generally make $57,000 or less, individuals with disabilities and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns,â according to the IRS.
