Catholics in the Greensburg Diocese are celebrating an early Christmas gift from Rome: the appointment of one of their own, Msgr. Larry J. Kulick, as bishop-elect.
Pope Francis announced the appointment of Kulick, a Leechburg native, as the sixth bishop of the diocese early Friday.
The appointment of the 54-year-old priest, who has spent his entire career in the diocese, marks the first time parishioners in the Greensburg Diocese have had cause to celebrate the elevation of a local priest to the bishop’s office.
Christmas Eve Silent Night sing to connect and inspire Christians

Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania (CASP) is encouraging all Christians to join in a socially distant, yet spiritually unified, “Silent Night” singalong on Christmas Eve.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday as participants will stand in front of their homes holding a lit candle to sing the traditional hymn, mirroring an element of in-person Christmas Eve worship services across most Christian traditions.
“This year, preparing for Christmas Eve stings,” said the Rev. Canon Natalie Hall of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, a proxy representative to Christian Associates’ Council of Bishops & Judicatory Executives.
