The Supreme Court of Canada has reaffirmed that secular courts should not be making theological decisions.
In a May 21 ruling, the court ruled unanimously in Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church of Canada v Aga that membership in a voluntary religious community is not a matter to be adjudicated by a secular court.
Canada’s Ethiopian Orthodox Archbishop Abune Dimetros has been in a legal battle with five members of the cathedral parish of St. Mary’s in Toronto ever since the archbishop expelled the parishioners for repeatedly accusing him of tolerating heresy. Dimetros offended the five parishioners by not imposing stricter penalties on a liturgical movement.

A school chaplain in the United Kingdom was forced out of his job and reported to the government s anti-terrorism watchdog after delivering a sermon to students about different ideologies related to gender identity.
Rev. Bernard Randall is taking legal action against Trent College in Nottingham for discrimination, harassment, victimization, and unfair dismissal, according to Christian Legal Centre.
In June 2018, Elly Barnes, CEO of Educate and Celebrate, came to the school to train staff on ways they can embed gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation into the fabric of your school.

A school chaplain lost his job at a Christian school and was reported to the government s counter-terrorism watchdog, Prevent, after telling students they were not compelled to accept an ideology they disagree with, his lawyers say.
The Rev. Bernard Randall, 48, is taking Trent College to court for discrimination, harassment, victimization and unfair dismissal.
He says he preached a sermon on the biblical view of gender identity and same-sex relationships after being approached by students who were confused and upset by some of the material being taught in a new LGBT-inclusive curriculum at the school.
