Serbian state returns almost all confiscated land to churches
18/01/2021
The restitution of property confiscated after World War II from churches and religious communities is coming to an end, and through the process of denominational restitution, 28,359 hectares of agricultural land have been returned so far, including as many as 24,227 hectares to the Serbian Orthodox Church.
This should not be surprising since more was taken away during the communist period, as evidenced by the data according to which out of a total of 3,049 requests submitted to the Agency for Restitution by all religious communities, half came from the Serbian Orthodox Church, more precisely 1,602. The remainder belonged to all other churches and religious communities, from whom a considerably smaller area of farmland was confiscated, but although with exceptions, most were returned.

Who is Herman Bavinck, and why should contemporary Christians care about him? James Eglinton’s penetrating new study, Bavinck: A Critical Biography, goes a long way toward answering these questions.
Eglinton, who teaches Reformed theology at the University of Edinburgh, has produced a magisterial work that figures to become the leading biography of the great Dutch Reformed theologian (1854–1921). Along with Abraham Kuyper, Bavinck was an important figure in the neo-Calvinist movement in the Netherlands in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. A theological giant in his own right, Bavinck has received increased attention in the English-speaking world, especially following the translation of his four-volume Reformed Dogmatics, but is still too little known (especially outside the Dogmatics).
Barely two hours after he became one of 10 House Republicans to vote Wednesday for the second impeachment of President Donald Trump, freshman Rep. Pete Meijer, R-Mich., was considered likely to face a pro-Trump primary challenger in 2022.

100 years is a time period of significance. In the last century people have seen world war, slavery, colonialism, apartheid, nuclear bombs invented and used, the emergence of technology, mobile phones, the internet, and most recently a global pandemic that shuttered the world and will soon have claimed the lives of over 2 million people in the last year alone.
The world has changed so much in the last century, and few people have been lucky enough to bear witness to this transformation with a sound mind. One of these fortunate individuals was my grandmother, Viola Welikala. Her elegant soul made it to the age of 100, made it through the tumultuous year 2020, and peacefully departed this world on January 1, 2021. Through the century that was her life, her mind was as sharp as a nail, and she took in all that life had to offer. It was this way right up to the last few days of her life.
