Lakeview runner named FCA student-athlete of the month | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff report The Fellowship of Christian Athletes has named Keira Reid, a student at Trumbull Career and Technical Center, as the Student-Athlete of the Month for March. Reid is a senior at TCTC studying exercise science and carries a grade point average of 3.96. She competes athletically for Lakeview, where she has lettered twice in cross country and is working on her second letter in track. Reid helps lead the FCA Huddle at TCTC and has been involved with her Youth Leadership Team at North Mar Church. She is planning on continuing her education at Owens Community College near Toledo. Katie Wright, English instructor at TCTC and FCA Huddle host, says Reid “has grown tremendously as a leader these last two years.”

Bria Matthews Wins ABW’s Wooden Citizenship Cup THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field senior Bria Matthews has been named the winner of the prestigious Wooden Citizenship Cup for 2021. Matthews received the honor Thursday night at the Wooden Cup annual awards banquet, sponsored by Athletes For a Better World and hosted at the College Football Hall of Fame in downtown Atlanta. Matthews was one of four finalists for the award along with Claire Kolff (Denison University), Trent Forrest (Florida State University) and Ryan Culhane (University of Dayton). The high school division recipients were Natalya Blair Newsome, Max David Friedman, Najah Nicholas and Cole Hagen. Rodrigo Blankenship received the Spirit of ABW Award, while Danny Wuerffel was the 2021 Wooden Citizenship Cup Professional Recipient.

Illinois College Students Awarded for Leadership and Service

By Asia Watson on April 28, 2021 at 4:06pm Last Thursday six Illinois College seniors were awarded the Julian M. Sturtevant Campus Leadership and Service Award. The announcement says earlier in the Spring each recipient was nominated for the award from all IC faculty and staff. A smaller committee met in early March to make final decisions. The award is presented annually to outstanding Illinois College graduating seniors. The Sturtevant Awards are given to visible leaders whose leadership has made a difference on the campus and in the organizations they serve. The 2021 recipients are Jordan Hall, Sydney Himmelman, Olivia Jordan, Alyssa Olagbegi, Sergio Pena, Allen Smith, and Asia Watson.

Youths recognized in YMCA-FCA scholarship program PRATTVILLE  Jenna Stilling was surprised to hear her name called out Monday night as the winner of the Willis Bradford Christian Leadership Award. The Prattville Christian Academy senior was among six qualifiers from high schools serving Autauga County for the YMCA-Fellowship of Christian Athletes program. Jenna, a self-described introvert, said the presentation by Mike Lamar, a member of the Y s board, could have  applied to any of the qualifiers. I read through the social media posts that the YMCA put out about a week ago and I knew that  all those statements described every single one of the individuals out here so I really didn t expect it, she said. Being put into all the leadership positions has really challenged me to grow. Pine River-Backus Elementary School Principal Rick Aulie and High School Principal Chris Halverson chose first grade teacher Shari Kamholz and high school math teacher Tom Demars for the annual Educators of Excellence recognition held by Sourcewell in Staples. Shari s had an excellent year in the classroom, Aulie told the PR-B School Board on Monday, April 19. She perseveres. She s here from sunup to sundown and she has a heart of gold. We appreciate all of her work. There will be a virtual ceremony Wednesday, April 28, to recognize area Educators of Excellence.
