NSW COVID cases grow by 124; infectious in community numbers rise

Advertisement NSW has recorded its highest daily COVID-19 case numbers in the current outbreak, with 124 locally acquired cases, as Premier Gladys Berejiklian warns the state needs to brace itself “for cases to go up even higher”. The number of cases infectious in the community was a record 48, which is the number health authorities say needs to be close to zero before restrictions are lifted. “Given that number of infectious in the community, I’m expecting case numbers to go up even higher,” Ms Berejiklian said on Thursday. “It’s really important for us to scoop up all the possible cases that are out there, and we’re also finding cases in workers in the required tests every three days.”

New South Wales has recorded 110 new local coronavirus cases out of a record number of 83,477 tests, as Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the state won t see the impact of harsher restrictions for several days.  Of the new cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Tuesday, 43 people were infectious in the community and 17 were in isolation for part of their infectious period, while the isolation status of 13 remains under investigation.  Ms Berejiklian said the new infections are a high number but a number which reflects the high amount of testing we had .

Of the new cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Wednesday, with at least 70 people infectious in the community for all or part of their infectious period. Forty-eight were active in the community for their entire infectious period. The cases come from a record 85,185 tests and include more in aged care.
