$15 minimum wage for federal contractors could have little local impact

A $15 minimum wage for federal contractors has been approved by President Joe Biden, however, the impact locally may not be very significant, a local economy expert says. As of April 6, there were a total of 4,402 contract workers on Fort Hood, officials said. Fort Hood officials said the installation does not have visibility on how many of the contractors would receive a raise due to Biden’s executive order signed this week. “I suspect that those employed by most federal contractors in the area are making more than $15,” said John Crutchfield, president of the Killeen Economic Development Corporation. ”So, the impact should be relatively small. That impact would be limited to entry level clerical positions. All in all, I suspect very little impact on the local economy,”

Crime, transparency, EDC and more: Killeen city candidates discuss the issues

Thirteen candidates are vying for four district council seats on the Killeen City Council in the May 1 election, with early voting starting on Monday. There are five candidates competing for District 1, currently held by Shirley Fleming, two candidates competing for District 2, three candidates for District 3 and three candidates for District 4. The District 2 seat is currently held by Debbie Nash-King, who is running for reelection against William Baumgartner. The District 3 seat was held by Jim Kilpatrick, who died in January, and is currently held by interim Councilmember Terry Clark. The District 4 seat is currently held by Steve Harris, who is running for reelection.

Killeen council shouldn t be kept in dark on hiring decision

The problem is, they’ve had virtually nothing to do with the selection process up until now. City Manager Kent Cagle has conditionally appointed Public Works Director Danielle Singh to be the city’s assistant city manager — a position that has been vacant since the resignation of David Ellison last fall. In addition, the council will be asked to approve the appointment of Jeffrey Reynolds to succeed Singh in the top spot over Public Works. He currently serves as the department’s assistant director. Certainly, promoting from within can be a solid strategy, as it rewards service to the city, acknowledges institutional knowledge and builds on current interdepartmental relationships.
