Dr. Judy Houle will be the Greenfield School Department’s lead administrator, managing the day-to-day operations at the superintendent level, while Nadine Ekstrom and Allen Himmelberger will serve as consultants. School Committee Chair Amy Proietti said the agreement is on a month-to-month basis. It will end when Harper who hasn’t been “actively working” for about a month returns to duty. Until then, the new arrangement will cost about $10,000 a month.

After the budget hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., the School Committee may continue to modify the budget before a final vote on March 9, at which time the committee will send the budget proposal to the district’s member towns.

Charlie Baker says Massachusetts is ramping up its vaccination efforts and is hoping to administer up to a million vaccines a month by the spring. In the meantime, Baker urged residents on Wednesday to be patient. There are 125 sites up and running. By the middle of the month, the number should increase to about 165. Also, Tripadvisor has opened its currently unoccupied headquarters in Needham as a COVID-19 vaccination site. The number of newly confirmed coronavirus deaths in Massachusetts rose by 53 on Wednesday, pushing the state’s confirmed COVID-19 death toll to 14,415 since the pandemic’s start.

Staff File Photo/PAUL FRANZ Related stories MONTAGUE Hybrid classes in the Gill-Montague Regional School District have been delayed from the original target date of Feb. 4 until Feb. 22, due to unexpected issues with staffing and delays in paperwork related to the schools’ ventilation systems. Gill-Montague has been in an entirely remote model since the pandemic began last March. Through the fall and winter, the district has aimed to move students to hybrid classes, but has been slowed by concerns about ventilation in the schools, preparation of staff for the new protocols and, as the winter wore on, a worsening public health situation.

Matrishon is one of 44 teachers in the United States selected for the program. The Extraordinary Educators program recognizes teachers who achieve best-in-class use of teaching materials from Curriculum Associates. Teachers selected for the program will receive professional development opportunities from Curriculum Associates, and will have access to the network of other teachers in the program. This is the first year Curriculum Associates has offered the program.
