Three officers were shot during a standoff in High Point that began Thursday night, police said.
At around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, an officer was on patrol on West English Road and heard gunshots, said Lt. Matt Truitt with the High Point Police Department.
The officer determined the shots were coming from a house in the 2900 block of West English Road, police said. A man was sitting on the porch and went back into the house, barricading himself inside once he saw the police, according to officers. Truitt said at one point, the officer saw the man brandishing a rifle.
More officers responded, and the police department s tactical team surrounded the house, trying to negotiate with the man and get him to leave the residence.

HIGH POINT, N.C. An hours-long standoff in High Point came to an end after three officers were shot early Friday morning, according to police. High Point police held a press briefing Friday afternoon.
According to High Point police, Josue Drumond-Cruz, 34, is now dead after a standoff with police that lasted more than 11 hours.

High Point, North Carolina (WXII) Three police officers were shot overnight in High Point after responding to the sound of gunshots.
Police say around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, officers heard shots fired near West English Road and South Road.
Police said they responded to the 2900 block of West English Road and found a man on the front porch with a rifle.
The man saw the officers respond and went back into the home, according to police.
Authorities said it’s unknown if the man exited the home and fired the gun, or if he shot through the front door around 3 a.m. He then barricaded himself inside the home.

A tactical team arrived and surrounded the home before the man, later identified as 34-year-old Joseph Drummond-Cruz, inside shot his AR-15-styled rifle from inside the home, hitting three officers.
High Point Lt. Matt Truitt said one officer was shot in the hand, another officer was shot in the shoulder and another was shot in the leg. All three are expected to be OK.

On Jan. 30, police received another report of a suspicious package, according to a release. Police believe this device is connected to the possible homemade explosive device found on on Wood Street on Jan. 25. A few days later, a device was found on a resident’s porch, The Times-News reported.
