A Leatherhead man has been found guilty of the murder of Phillip Bagwell in the town after a weeks long trial. Today (Thursday, December 10), Daniel Styles (known locally as Daniel George Hopper) 32, from Leatherhead, was found guilty of murder after the death of 54-year-old Phillip Bagwell on Wednesday, June 10. His trial was held over the last three weeks at Guildford Crown Court before returning its verdict earlier this afternoon. As the Surrey Comet reported previously, Phillip was found by neighbours at his home address on North Street in Leatherhead on June 10.

A Worcester Park paedophile has been jailed for attempting to meet a minor for sex, after being caught in a police sting in Ashtead. Millan Rajasooriar, 34, of Hampton Road, pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court on October 26 to one count of attempting sexual communication with a child and one count of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence. He was sentenced to two-and-a-half years’ imprisonment at a hearing today (December 4). On October 28 last year, Rajasooriar had travelled to Ashtead Train Station, where he expected to meet and have sex with a 13-year-old child, but was instead met by officers from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit and arrested.
