SouthGrow awarding two scholarships Yes As part of an ongoing effort to invest in the future of the agri-food economy of Southern Alberta, SouthGrow Regional Economic Development announced they will be awarding two $1,500 scholarships to deserving students in the region. The scholarships are meant to support the academic advancements of promising young people who intend to use their education to participate in the regional agri-food economy. “This is the second year that we’ve awarded these scholarships to students who want to build a career in the agri-food industry in southern Alberta,” says Jim Willett, Coutts Mayor and Chairperson of SouthGrow. “That can mean everything from taking your education back to the family farm, becoming an agronomist, using high tech at an industrial operation, or working at a processing facility making food for the world. There’s a lot of opportunity and we want to encourage our young people to consider agri-food as a career.”

With students only just having returned to in-class learning at the start of this week the Lethbridge School Division reports they have received notice from Alberta Health Services on Tuesday of a COVID-19 outbreak at Gilbert Paterson Middle School. AHS has notified the Division that there are three COVID-19 cases at Gilbert Paterson Middle School. At this time, based on advice from Alberta Education, Gilbert Paterson Middle School will remain open. The Alberta Government defines an outbreak as two or more confirmed cases in a school setting within a 14-day period or two or more confirmed cases that are epidemiologically linked.

Residents will be asked to access the City’s online services or call Lethbridge 311 rather than visiting city hall during this time. Anyone with urgent city hall business can call Lethbridge 311 during business hours to inquire about booking an appointment with the required department.
