San Diego County leaders order flags flown at half-staff in honor of San Jose shooting victims
An employee opened fire Wednesday at a California rail yard, killing nine people before taking his own life as law enforcement rushed in, authorities said.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. Nathan Fletcher, Chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System has ordered flags be flown at half-staff Thursday by both entities in remembrance of the lives lost Wednesday from the mass shooting at a transit agency rail yard in San Jose.

It was the 15th mass killing in the nation this year that has resulted in a total of 86 deaths.

SAN JOSE, Calif. â An employee who gunned down nine people at a California rail yard and then killed himself as law enforcement rushed in had talked about killing people at work more than a decade ago, his ex-wife said.
An employee carrying multiple guns opened fire in a mass shooting at a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light rail facility in San Jose Wednesday morning, killing nine victims and injuring several others. The incident was connected to a separate house fire in the city at around the same time of the shooting, according to officials.
Investigators offered no immediate word on a motive but the gunman's ex-wife said he used to come home from work resentful over what he perceived as unfair assignments.
