Magic realism reexamined in new exhibition at the Georgia Museum of Art

ATHENS, GA
.- Long overshadowed by the rise of abstract expressionism in the 1950s, magic realisms reputation is on the way up again. The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia is presenting the exhibition Extra Ordinary: Magic, Mystery and Imagination in American Realism from February 27 to June 13, 2021, seeking to reexamine how we define magic realism and expand the canon of artists who worked within this category.

.-The Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati announced it has appointed Marcus Margerum to the newly created position of Deputy Director & Chief Business Officer. In this role, Margerum will be responsible for overseeing the business management of the institution, including all administrative, operational, and financial matters. He began his new role with the CAC on March 1, 2021.
Prior to joining the CAC team, Margerum held several key leadership positions in the entertainment and hospitality industry in Atlanta. He was most recently the Vice President of Government and Community Affairs with the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB). NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A few weeks ago, ahead of a nor’easter that unleashed biting winds and snow across New England, Alyssa Washington, a high school senior who wants to be a nurse, made her big college decision: not to go next fall.
There was no single reason. Rather, mounting obstacles led Washington, a senior at Metropolitan Business Academy, a public school in New Haven, to hit pause. She had not finished the Common App, a shared application form used by more than 900 colleges and universities; had struggled to write her application essay; had lost her password for Naviance, which collects transcripts, recommendation letters and other forms needed to apply; and – like many students in low-income districts this year – had not filled out the FAFSA, the federal financial aid application form.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard will be starting for opposing teams in today s 70th annual NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta.
James was the leading vote-getter among Western Conference players for the third time in his three seasons with the Lakers, making him a team captain. Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant was the leading vote-getter in the Eastern Conference and the game s other captain.
As the top overall vote-getter, James got the first choice in the draft of all-star players, and made Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo the first selection. Durant chose Leonard with the sixth overall selection.
