Bar Vegan, an “experiential” restaurant and cocktail bar from Slutty Vegan founder Aisha “Pinky” Cole, opens Sunday, February 28, at Ponce City Market. The full-service restaurant takes over the space formerly occupied by the Mercury, which closed in 2019 after three years on the second floor of the central food hall.
Expect riffs on classic cocktails like a pineapple and Texas margarita, the cosmopolitan, old fashioned, and gimlet, along with vegan beer and wine, non-alcoholic cocktails, and wildly over-the-top tableside drinks served in a fire extinguisher, Ferris wheel, or a gas can. The Foreign Fruit Punch comes served in an “active smokey volcano.” It’s all part of what’s being described as “bar theatre” at Bar Vegan.

The house on Boykin Ridge Drive hasn’t had a soul in it since February 23, 2020.

On Feb. 27, the Georgia Museum of Art will open its latest exhibition, âExtra Ordinary: Magic, Mystery and Imagination in American Realism.â The focus of this exhibit is âmagic realism,â a genre of art that emerged in the 1940s.
The genre is âoften compared to surrealism, but while surrealism focuses on the life of the mind, magic realism is grounded in the real world, showing fantastical elements as a part of everyday life,â according to the Georgia Museum of Art s website.
Michael Ricker, one of two sponsors for âExtra Ordinary,â said that this confusion is what motivated him to help start the exhibition.
