In Our View: Bauer’s devotion to learning improved county The Columbian Share: Even late in life, Al Bauer was a gentlemanly voice of reason and cared deeply for his community. As recently as April 7, in a letter to the editor published by The Columbian, Bauer reminisced about his father and shared a quote about the environment: “Nature is working 24 hours per day to put a brand-new suit of clothes on itself and if man could give more time and help nature in its work of beautification, then how beautiful life could be.” That was the last of many letters to the editor from Bauer, and it meaningfully encapsulated a lifetime of work to beautify Clark County. Bauer died last week at the age of 92, following a stroke.

While that iceberg continues to melt, the Penguins shared their resolve and goals for the future during Thursday’s online State of the College Address. More than 140 viewers tuned in on YouTube and watched Dr. Karin Edwards, president of Clark College, speak for 30 minutes. Although there was no timetable for a return to in-person learning, Edwards spoke about how Clark responded to COVID-19, budget challenges and advancing racial equality. Associated Students of Clark College President Josiah Joner and 2021 Transforming Lives Award nominee Tosha Big Eagle shared their stories about life on and off campus in this changed reality.

Hayes, Earth Day’s primary national organizer in 1970 and lifelong environmental activist and advocate, will lead a Zoom discussion at 5 p.m. today about how the Pacific Northwest can be a leader in building healthy human ecosystems at Clark College Foundation’s “Creating Super Green Cities” virtual event.

Ruling clarifies Clark College Foundation s nonprofit status | News

On Thursday, Dec. 3, the Clark County Superior Court ruled in favor of a summary judgement clarifying that the Clark College Foundation’s donor and partner records are private. Judge Suzan L. Clark’s decision determined that the foundation’s records are not subject to the Public Records Act. In a news release, the foundation said the judge’s decision is key for Clark College Foundation because it protects information about its donors and partners and the ruling allows the foundation to continue what it has done since it was established in 1973: act in good faith for its donors and partners by establishing trust and providing consistent stewardship of their investments that ultimately benefit Clark College.
