Local fire departments see decrease in firework-related fires over holiday weekend

PORTLAND, Ore. Leading up to the Fourth of July a number of cities and counties in Oregon banned the use of fireworks. Some, like Portland also banned the sale of fireworks.
But did those efforts paid off? According to three separate fire departments, the bans were effective.
Steve Forster, a fire marshal with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R), said the ban in a handful of cities and counties they serve made a difference and early data shows it.

A man was injured, and four people and two dogs were displaced by a duplex fire Thursday afternoon in central Vancouver.
Initial reports said the man was pulled from the burning residence at 2607 E. 21st St., in the Harney Heights neighborhood, and was outside when fire personnel arrived, according to emergency radio traffic monitored by The Columbian.
