Chris Starrs When Jolene O’Brien’s son was an infant, she taught herself the art of knitting and crocheting. Now that her little boy is 45 years old, O’Brien reluctantly assented that she’s got mad skills when it comes to yarn and needles.  “I’ve gotten quite good at it,” she said.  An Athens resident for the past seven years, the Maine native spends her downtime watching television (“The Queen’s Gambit” was a recent favorite) and creating crocheted goodies for family and friends.   “I do it when I have time to sit down,” said O’Brien, who moved to the Classic City from Florida. “I couldn’t tell you how long it takes to make something and I’ve never even considered trying to time it, but it’s not done in one setting. It’s usually a matter of days or weeks, depending on how busy I am. What I like to do in the evenings when the dishes are done is I’ll sit down and watch a movie and crochet.”
