The Clark County Council has appointed Senior Deputy Prosecutor James Smith to replace District Court Judge Darvin Zimmerman, who retired from the bench June 30.
Smith was one of two finalists for the open seat; District Court Commissioner Todd George also had a second-round interview with the council Monday.

The Clark County Council has appointed District Court Commissioner Abigail Bartlett to one of two judicial vacancies on the bench.
Bartlett was chosen to fill the Department 6 seat that opened when Judge John Hagensen retired June 30. She has served as a court commissioner since July 2017 and, before that, was a senior deputy prosecutor with the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, according to a county news release.
While Bartlett was a prosecutor, she was a team leader in the juvenile unit and unit coordinator for the Elder Justice Center. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in international studies from the University of Washington and juris doctor from Seattle University.

Arrest warrants were issued Friday for the adoptive parents of Karreon Franks, a 15-year-old Vancouver boy who died of starvation and neglect in November.
The Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed domestic violence charges of second-degree murder and homicide by abuse against Felicia Louise Adams, 52, and her husband, Jesse Costillo Franks, 56.

Before he was deported to Korea, John had visited there only once. He could understand some of the language from listening to his parents while growing up, but he wasn’t fluent or even conversational.
