Sheriff s Office seizes 57 horses in animal neglect investigation

HELENA â The Lewis & Clark County Sheriff s Office seized 57 horses as part of an investigation of an animal neglect case.
Sheriff Leo Dutton characterized the neglect as moderate to severe.
The Sheriff s Office served a warrant and begin moving the animals on Tuesday morning to the Lewis & Clark Fairgrounds in Helena.
Authorities have not yet disclosed where the horses were taken from, but said more than a dozen were already being held at the fairgrounds.

HELENA â Lewis and Clark Public Health (LCPH) opened pre-registration at 9:00 a.m. on Friday for their first
Phase 1b vaccination clinic on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Both days were completely full in a matter of minutes.
âWe believe that tells us the process was relatively efficient and user friendly,â said Eric Merchant, LCPH disease control and prevention division administrator.
Merchant says the big issue they have right now is the individuals wanting to get vaccinated far outnumbers the supply they have available from the state. An estimated 20,000 individuals in the county qualify for phase 1b and roughly 900 shots were available for the two days.

HELENA â Governor Greg Gianforte announced some of his new COVID-19 policies on Tuesday saying he will remove the mask mandate and adjust vaccination strategies.
Gianforte made it clear he wants to repeal a mask mandate once vaccination criteria has been met and businesses, schools, nonprofits and churches are protected from litigation if they follow public health guidelines.
Lewis and Clark Public Health (LCPH) expressed concerns with the governor wanting to remove the mask mandate under just those criteria and the message it might send.

Lewis and Clark Public Health, partnering with St. Peterâs Health and PureView Health Center, are holding a clinic by appointment this week for the broad vaccination of frontline health care workers located in the county.
Hundreds or frontline health care workers such as dentists, long-term care facility staff, private practitioners, behavioral health professionals and more got their first dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine Tuesday morning.
