Tomlinson pleads guilty in unlawful entry

Ike Tomlinson, owner of two gas stations and a bulk fuel station in Jefferson and Clark Counties, plead guilty to the charge of unlawful entry and waived the right to a trial Dec. 7. Tomlinson was fined $1,000, ordered to 180 days in jail and informal probation for one year. The fine was reduced after $600 was suspended from the charge, and the 180 days in jail was also suspended. Judge Robert Crowley granted Tomlinson a withheld judgement of unlawful entry after he completes a successful one year probation. According to court documents, Western Wildfire LLC partners Aaron Smith of Menan and Spencer Scott of Roberts requested that they would like Tomlinson to be charged with Corporate Espionage, with Smith stating that Tomlinson’s actions could potentially cost them “hundreds of thousands of dollars this next year” in making bids for government contracts for fueling, as Tomlinson can now lower his bids further knowing they have a fuel truck.

Madison County CASA gets new office

CASA Logo Several weeks ago, a volunteer with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Madison County went to check on a one-and-a-half-year-old child who had not been seen since February of 2020. When they arrived, the child s caregiver was using substances and unable to focus. If that volunteer had not done that visit, we don t know what would have happened to that child, said Victoria Benge, director of CASA of Madison and Clark Counties. Benge and her 66 nonprofit volunteers help advocate for abused and neglected children in Madison County and ensure they have a safe and permanent home. She said each will meet with the child they are assigned to at least monthly and they will become one of the few constant people involved in these children s lives.

Local nonprofits succeed in GoodGiving Challenge

Dec 21, 2020 It was a record breaking year for the 11th annual GoodGiving Challenge, a week-long online giving challenge for local nonprofits hosted by Blue Grass Community Foundation (BCF) and Smiley Pete Publishing. Lauren Parsons, director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications at BCF, stated the weeklong generosity campaign entails sponsors from different foundations and endowments who pool together a large amount of matching funds and prizes for participating nonprofits. She explained the event, which began in 2011, started as a published guide full of profiles for non-profits and information, which readers could donate to in the spirit of giving back. This year, the organization was able to raise $2.39 million for 126 central Kentucky nonprofits.
