Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools announce remote learning day for Jan 4

Clarksville Now CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System announced Monday that it will implement a remote learning day for all traditional students on Jan. 4, 2021. Schools were scheduled to resume both traditional and virtual learning after the winter break on that day. CMCSS families were notified Monday afternoon via email and telephone calls of the change in plans. “District leadership has reviewed Gov. Lee’s Executive Order #70 and is seeking guidance from local and state agencies on its implications for in-person learning through mid-January,” the notification read. Additionally, the district said that if further adjustments are needed to the plan to return from winter break, that they will communicate that information no later than Monday, Dec. 28.

COVID-19 in Clarksville: Nearing 2,000 active cases, 7 new deaths in last week

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville continues to break records as the Tennessee Department of Health reports there are currently 1,952 active cases of COVID-19, and the county has maintained at least 1,500 active cases since Thursday, Dec. 17.  Since our last COVID-19 update on Dec. 14, Montgomery County has added 7 new deaths, bringing the total dead from the virus to 109 in the area. In an attempt to mitigate the virus’ spread, Gov. Bill Lee issued a new Executive Order on Sunday night, limiting the number of people that can gather publicly to just 10. The order will be in effect until Jan. 19, 2021.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Executive leaders from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System and the district’s teacher association gathered virtually Wednesday night to hear concerns and strategize on solutions about Clarksville’s growing COVID-19 numbers. On Dec. 15, the school system announced all students would transition to remote learning for the rest of the year beginning Wednesday, Dec. 16. In the email announcement that was sent to parents, CMCSS cited staffing issues as well as COVID-19 concerns as reasons for their decision to stop in-person classes. CMCEA’s initial concerns The Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Association (CMCEA), submitted a letter to Director of Schools Millard House on Nov. 23 with concerns about the Thanksgiving holiday causing a spike in positive COVID-19 cases both in the school and the surrounding community.
