County commissioners award Fisher grants to 6 organizations Submitted article WIIMINGTON The Clinton County Board of Commissioners has named six organizations as recipients for 2021 Fischer Trust Fund grants totaling $24,000: • Clinton County Homeless Shelter $2,500 • Clinton County Youth Council $2,500 • Friends of Juvenile Court Bacon & Bits 4-H Club $2,000 • Harvest of Gold $3,000 • Kids & Company $3,000 • Children Services $11,000 There were more applicants in 2021 than previous years. Selecting grant recipients from an outstanding and varied group of applicants is always a challenging task, and the fund simply does not have enough money to favor all of the fine proposals submitted for consideration. Known in the community as the pianist who accompanied silent movies at The Murphy Theatre from the time it opened until the advent of “talkies”, Charles “Charlie” F. Lucas Fund names five 2021 recipients Submitted article The five recipients of the 2021 Lucas Fund have been announced. The Fund is managed by the Clinton County Foundation and the Lucas committee meets annually to make its selections. The awardees are: • Clinton County History Center, $3,000 for a Museum in a Box program • Clinton County Youth Council, $4,000 for an expansion and accessibility of the disc golf course • Imagination Library, $2,500, sponsoring 100 preschool children with free books for a year; • Murphy Theatre, $2.500, after-school music program. “The impact of the Lucas Fund this year will be truly amazing,” said Jan Blohm, executive director of the Clinton County Foundation.

Wilmington College’s Greek letter organizations raise $8,000 for charitable causes Submitted article WILMINGTON Wilmington College’s Greek-letter organizations raised more than $8,000 in a recent fundraising drive that will benefit a host of non-profit organizations and WC families experiencing recent hardship. Sigrid Solomon, vice president for student affairs and dean of students, congratulated the students for their leadership. “This is another example of how students are making a difference in their local community,” she said. “This exemplifies two of Wilmington College’s core values community and service.” Several local organizations are among the recipients of the goodwill exhibited by five fraternities and six sororities.
