JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Districts across the state will soon be able to purchase cleaner-burning school buses, thanks to a grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
MDEQ recently announced that it had awarded $354,700 to 15 school districts to apply to the purchase of new school buses with “more stringent pollution controls.”
“Not only will the students benefit from a cleaner school bus, but the environment will as well,” said Chris Wells, MDEQ Executive Director.

CLINTON, Miss. (WLBT) - The Clinton Public School District will close out the fall semester with an even 100 COVID-19 cases reported among students, teachers and staffers.
Classes began on August 13 and ended Friday, December 18, for the Christmas holidays.
The final numbers come as three more positive cases were reported in the district. On Friday, one student at Clinton Junior High and two students at Clinton High tested positive, according to a district news release.

The Mississippi School Boards Association (MSBA) has named Tim Martin, Ed.D., as the new Assistant Executive Director. Dr. Martin will assume the new role on July 1, 2021, when he retires from his current position as Superintendent of Education for the Clinton Public School District.
âI am excited to add Dr. Martin to the MSBA leadership team, said Denotris R. Jackson, MSBA Executive Director. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will allow us to expand services and resources to our membership.
Dr. Martin has been a part of the Clinton Public School District since 1998 and has served as principal at Lovett Elementary and Clinton Junior High School. He also served as Assistant Superintendent from 2003 to 2017 when he was appointed Superintendent. Prior to his Clinton roles, he served as a principal and assistant principal in the Jackson Public and Grenada School Districts.
