There, that is, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has recently opened a full-scale survey of this greatest of 20th-century portraitists (‘Alice Neel: People Come First’; until 1 August). Go if you can, and revel in the sheer presence of so many unmasked faces, so many interesting humans – the encounter with each one unforgettable.
The timing of the show could not be better. Newly decamped from the Breuer building on Madison Avenue, and finally emerging from months of reduced visitation, the Met – again, like all of us – could use a shot in the arm. Neel most definitely provides it. Over the course of her long career, she was wildly out of step with prevailing tendencies. Only now are we finally catching up to her, at last able to see her paintings as the bracingly essential works that they always have

From Goryeo celadon to a rare triad Buddhist sculpture from the 1392-1910 Joseon Kingdom, gems of Korean art in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art can be vicariously viewed in a catalogue compiled by the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation (OKCHF). The Korean Collection at the Cleveland Museum of Art, is the 16th in the OKCH series by the foundation that researches notable collections of Korean cultural artifacts around the globe.
State rescinds historic tax credits for Ohio Bell Building redevelopment in downtown Cleveland

An out-of-state developer that hoped to remake much of the Ohio Bell Building in downtown Cleveland s Gateway District as a hotel recently lost state tax credits for the preservation project. The 22-story building is owned by AT&T.
The state has revoked a $4.2 million historic tax credit award for the Ohio Bell Building in downtown Cleveland, where a planned hotel conversion stalled out last year.
In a letter dated Feb. 19, the Ohio Development Services Agency notified Todd Interests that it had rescinded the award after the Dallas-based real estate company failed to show progress. The highly sought-after credits, which the state doesn t pay out until projects are complete, will go back into a pool for future preservation-minded applicants.
