NORMAN â Oklahoma set a record for new COVID-19 cases that exceeded 6,000 Sunday, the Oklahoma State Department of Health reported.
With 6,487 new cases, the cumulative total climbed to 331,362 total cases statewide. Sundayâs numbers also mark the fourth time this month that the state has recorded more than 5,000 new cases in a single day.
The seven-day rolling average jumped from 3,402 Saturday to 3,898 Sunday.
The state reported 169 new cases in Norman, bringing the cumulative total to 10,568 COVID-19 cases and 9,097 recoveries. The death toll remains at 92, with no new deaths recorded Sunday.
County numbers
Cleveland County recorded 429 new cases Sunday, bringing the countyâs cumulative case total to 22,062. The Cleveland County Health Department has reported 171 COVID-19-related deaths and 18,772 recoveries in the county.

As COVID-19 vaccine distribution ramped up this week, Oklahomans over 65 who received their first doses were hoping to do their part to end the pandemic and reconnect with loved ones.
Across the state, areas are moving into Phase 2 of Oklahoma’s vaccine distribution plan. A larger group of health care workers, emergency responders and those over 65 are now eligible to get their first doses.
For Norman resident Linda Dzialo, the vaccine will bring her experience with the virus full-circle.
“I lost my husband to COVID,” she said. “And I was hospitalized with COVID and almost died. So this is very meaningful to me. I’ve been living for this day.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported more than 5,000 new COVID-19 cases for the third time in a week on Friday, including 138 new cases in Norman.
Norman has now reported 10,254 COVID-19 cases, 8,945 recoveries and 91 COVID-related deaths.
The Cleveland County Health Department is running vaccination clinics at Normanâs Sooner Mall. The state has launched an online vaccination portal that Oklahomans can use to pre-register for the vaccine and schedule a vaccination when they are eligible.
The portal is available at vaccinate.oklahoma.gov.

Oklahoma reported 5,232 new cases in the state Friday, placing the stateâs cumulative case total at 320,596. This is the third time since Jan. 1 that Oklahoma has recorded over 5,000 new cases in a single day; Fridayâs new case total is the highest single-day case increase the state has ever reported.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported an additional COVID-related death in Norman Thursday as the cityâs COVID-19 case total grew by 122.
Normanâs cumulative cases reached a grim milestone Thursday, topping 10,000. In total, the city has now reported 10,116 COVID-19 cases and 8,883 recoveries. Thursdayâs additional death brings Normanâs COVID-related death toll to 91.
