Indiana man gets 3-10 years in MDOC for Gilead Township slashing incident

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An Indiana man was ordered to serve between three to 10 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections on Monday in Branch County Circuit Court for slashing a man during a Gilead Township confrontation in September of 2019. 63-year-old Mark Edwin Bailey entered a guilty plea to a charge of assault to do great bodily harm less than murder. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed charges of assault with intent to murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. Bailey was also given credit for 315 days already served. Michigan State Police said at the time of the incident that three men were drinking together at a home on Mercury Road when an argument broke out.

UC man gets jail time after entering guilty pleas to two counts

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Union City man was sentenced in Branch County Circuit Court on Monday after entering guilty pleas to charges of attempted second degree child abuse and third degree fleeing and eluding. 27-year-old Kyle Santiago Arrasmith was ordered to serve 11 months in the Branch County Jail. He was placed on probation for two years. He was arrested March 11 after he tried to flee from a Union City Police Officer who tried to stop him for an equipment violation. The pursuit ended when Arrasmith’s vehicle crashed in the area of Girard and Arborgast Roads. The child abuse charge was filed after an investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department into January incidents involving his four month old daughter.

McCann waives preliminary exam, shooting case bound over to Circuit Court

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The case of a man who has been charged in connection with a shooting incident in Matteson Township last month has been bound over to Branch County Circuit Court. 28-year-old Travis McCann waived his preliminary exam which was scheduled to take place on Tuesday in District Court. Prosecutors have also dropped a charge of assault with intent to murder. For now, McCann is facing counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, felony firearm and aggravated stalking. McCann also had his $100,000 bond revoked when it was determined he tried to contact the alleged victim through a third party which violated one of the terms of his bond.
