India’s capital extended its lockdown for another week and adopted stricter controls as the world’s worst-hit nation recorded than 4,000 coronavirus deaths for a second consecutive day.
The European Union approved a contract with Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE for as many as 1.8 billion vaccine doses as the region bulks up its vaccination campaign through 2023. The outbreak is easing in Germany and Russia.
The U.S. looked set for its first week since mid-September in which daily cases haven’t exceeded 50,000. Meanwhile, the pace of vaccinations slowed, with some states turning away doses from their federal government allocations amid falling demand for shots.
